Scorsese's next film and more...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usMartin's next film is entitled "The Long Play" and it will be about two friends in the music business: it will "highlight the rise and fall of musical genres along the way, touching on everything from the salad days of R&B to rock and up through contemporary hip-hop."--"William Monahan, the screenwriter of "The Departed," will rewrite the screenplay; Mick Jagger ( will coproduce." -IFC

Variety has reported that director Darren Lynn Bousman(Saw 2,3,and 4)will be doing his take on David Cronenberg's "Scanners". Hmmm-this could be bad.

Variety has also announced Danny Boyle's next film already.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Sunshine isn't even out yet.

"Ponte Tower" will be shot entirely in one of the tallest skyscrapers in Africa: "The 54-storey cylindrical Ponte Tower in Johannesburg, South Africa, was considered one of the city's most desirable addresses and a powerful symbol of white affluence under apartheid when it was built in 1975. Local papers even dubbed it "heaven on earth."
"But despite breathtaking views the hulking urban landmark disintegrated into a wind-ravaged hellhole infected by gangs, guns and drugs likened by some to the Tower of Babel."

Steve Jobs' Open Letter to Music Industry...

Steve Jobs

"Apple’s demand that record companies do away with copyright protection for songs they sell online has set up a bitter battle between the two camps as they prepare for broad-ranging contract negotiations."---"Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, published an open letter on Tuesday arguing that selling music online without such protections – known as digital rights management – would make it easier for consumers to listen to music on different devices, boosting the overall market."---"However, several music executives on Wednesday dismissed his suggestion as disingenuous and reiterated their argument that inter-operability between devices would be improved if Apple were to license its own DRM to other companies rather than doing away with the protections altogether. They also suggested that Mr Jobs’s true motive was to defuse legal problems in Europe, where Apple is being asked to make iTunes compatible with other devices."-FT

Music industry sues Augusta man...

"Scott Hinds, 23, is a defendant in one of a number of lawsuits by Recording Industry of America affiliates seeking to halt illegal sharing of copyrighted songs -- a once-widespread practice some maintain was "fair use," encouraged by certain computer software.

As artists attempt to regain control of their music -- and reap profits from sales -- recording industry spokeswoman Amanda Hunter said 18,000 individuals have been sued in similar lawsuits since September 2003, but Hinds is one of only six defendants in Maine."---"The allegation is that Hinds used an "online media distribution system" to download tunes, then distributed the copyrighted material to others.

The lawsuit doesn't identify the download service Hinds allegedly used, nor does it identify individual users who allegedly obtained the copyrighted music from Hinds.

According to the association, "online investigators searched for copyrighted recordings made available by individuals on peer-to-peer networks."

They then filed a lawsuit against Internet service providers prompting them to identify individuals who allegedly shared music files.

Hinds faces a minimum civil penalty of $750 per song. There can be criminal penalties as well."-maintoday

Smokin' Aces...

smokin' aces

Well back in November I had posted about this going to be a guy ritchie-esque gangster type movie. I was wrong-Kind of. I had been anticipating this to be balls to the wall-nonstop-action from beginning to end. It seemed to move really slow the first thirty minutes. By no means am I saying that this was a bad movie though. It's a definate top-notch crime-comedy mashup. Director Joe Carnahan borrows elements of Ritchie and Tarantino flicks, but does it well. A great quote I saw on it: "It's like True Romance crossed with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels remade with the artistic vision of Domino." The cast shines bright for sure. Jeremy Pivon's coked out character was excellent and Cameo's acting debut was superb. Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta give great performances playing their FBI agent characters. No surprise with Liotta, but I was wondering how Reynolds would be.
Even though we are only a month in-this will go into my Top Ten of the Year. Let's see if it can stay there another eleven months. I'll leave another quote I found on it: "Isn't this grown-up? In a word, no, and that's what's so much fun about it."

Pick up Joe Carnahan's NARC in our store.

Vans Sky Gallery

Vans Sky Gallery
Now this is an awesome idea! "Working closely with local emerging and recognized artists, Vans recently started a new project called the Vans Sky Gallery, a series of original artworks displayed on two huge 14' by 48' elevated billboards located in Los Angeles' Fairfax District above Fairfax and Melrose Avenues."--" Vans will undertake an unprecedented art program in Los Angeles, bringing together six of the area’s top emerging and recognized art talents by featuring their original work on a prominent billboard in the city.

For the duration of the project these six artists’ work will appear for two months at a time and culminate with a group show at a local gallery next November, presented by Vans. In addition, Vans will make a $1,000 donation to the local charity of each artist’s choice, on their behalf, giving back to the city that has given the company and these artists so much." -Vans
