Oldboy Cho Seung-Hui

Oh come on! I think they are really stretching here. Some are saying that a few of the pics that the idiot Cho Seung-Hui sent to NBC, look similar to the cover of Park Chan-Wook's bloody, revenge tale, "Oldboy". "The inspiration for perhaps the most inexplicable image in the set that Cho Seung-Hui mailed to NBC news on Monday may be a movie from South Korea that won the Gran Prix prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2004.
The poses in the two images are similar, and the plot of the movie, “Oldboy,” seems dark enough to merit at least some further study. Following is The Times’s plot summary:
'The film centers on a seemingly ordinary businessman, Dae-su (the terrific Choi Min-sik), who, after being mysteriously imprisoned, goes on an extensive, exhausting rampage, seeking answers and all manner of bloody revenge.'
In a Times review, Manohla Dargis wrote that the film’s 'body count and sadistic violence' mostly appealed to 'cult-film aficionados for whom distinctions between high art and low are unknown, unrecognized and certainly unwelcome."-Hollywood Reporter Blog

Amazon Set for Music Downloads + More

"Amazon, which is considered the best bet to challenge iTunes' supremacy in the digital world, is shooting to launch its MP3 digital download store in May, a target date it has yet to publicly acknowledge. (Amazon declines comment.) Meanwhile, sources familiar with the situation say Universal Music Group plans to test the sale of unprotected digital music files, including some of its classical music catalog conceivably including titles by
Andrea Bocelli, at the new Amazon store and other outlets."

"Until recently, eMusic, which served up its 1 millionth download in December, has been the dominant player selling MP3s. A month ago, Universal's plans would have been big news. But the label's move was upstaged by EMI chairman Eric Nicoli's joint announcement with Apple CEO
Steve Jobs that in May the major would release its catalog in unprotected digital files."
"In moving to an MP3 a la carte download model, Amazon initially was pushing for lower wholesale pricing than the current marketplace provides -- 70 cents per track or 70% of retail price -- but pushback from indie labels has merchants talking about what those labels consider more realistic models, if not yet at that pricing level."-Read more at Yahoo
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a related story:"The Australian music industry has approached Internet service providers (ISP) to penalise people who illegally download music.

Under the plan, record labels would identify Internet customers who are illegally downloading and service providers would give them three warnings before cutting off their phone and Internet connections."
"Ms Heindl says several smaller Internet providers have already expressed support for the plan but the piracy unit is still waiting on a response from the Internet industry association." Read more HERE

Eighteen Visions Call It Quits

"After several years of touring and quite a few album releases we have decided that it is time to go our seperate ways. We have been a band for a very long time and feel good about everything we were able to accomplish. At this point in our lives and our careers we feel its time to move on to something fresh and new. Weither it be music, touring or just being at home to live and enjoy life. We would like to thank all of our fans, friends and families for all of the great support over the years. We would also like to thank all of the bands we have shared the stage with and everyone who has ever worked with the band, opened a door or reached out a hand. We will be playing our final two shows in April. One in San Diego and one in Orange County. Come rock with us one more time."

Rob Zombie's Halloween Trailer

Set to be released on August 31st. Head over to Yahoo to view the trailer for yet another rendition of HALLOWEEN!(9th one to be exact) Click Here to view.

"his plans call for a whole new beginning to the franchise with no connections to the previous films. While the intent is to make a new version of the film, Rob Zombie has made it clear that the Michael Myers mask and theme music will remain.[2] Recently Zombie has seen the mask and claims that "It looks perfect. exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has The Shape looked so good".[3] Apparently, John Carpenter has given his blessing to Rob Zombie.[4] Malek Akkad will assist in producing, replacing Moustapha Akkad, his deceased father."-Wikipedia

RIAA hates NIN

Apparently I am behind on this story, but I thought this was pretty clever. Nine Inch Nails are doing the expected opposite and using the internet fully to promote their new album called "YEAR ZERO". NIN have been distributing tracks on USB flash drives at concerts. The first two were found in bathroom stalls and then another taped to the barricade at a show. They've all been 320 kbps MP3, DRM-free and widely distributed. The following is from BILLBOARD: "Neither Reznor, his management nor representatives at his Interscope label would speak to Billboard about the campaign, which has encompassed everything from cryptic phrases on T-shirts to Orwellian Web sites to MP3s found on USB drives in bathrooms at NIN concerts. But a source with knowledge of the project says Reznor may very well perceive it all not as a marketing campaign, but as "a new entertainment form."

Indeed, the source says the campaign forms the body of the "Year Zero" experience: "It is the CD booklet come to life. It precedes the concept album and the tour. And it will continue for the next 18 months, with peaks and valleys."

The source continues, "No one has assembled the full story yet. The new media is creating the story as it goes."

"Year Zero" came to life in early February when Web-savvy fans discovered that highlighted letters inside words on a NIN tour T-shirt spelled out "I am trying to believe." Savvy fans added a ".com" to the five words and, voila, located a thought-provoking, eerie Web site. Other associated sites created by 42 Entertainment were soon discovered, including http://www.bethehammer.net, http://www.anotherversionofthetruth.com and http://www.churchofplano.com, where a dark future reigns supreme." -Read more from this BILLBOARD Article LISTEN to YEAR ZERO HERE

England Denies Holocaust

Ok, well not exactly, but ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME?! Read this ridiculousness:

"Teachers are dropping controversial subjects such as the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons because they do not want to cause offence to children from certain races or religions, a report claims." "“Staff may wish to avoid causing offence or appearing insensitive to individuals or groups in their classes. In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship,” it concluded.

"However, it was concerned that this could lead to divisions within school, and that it might also put pupils off history." -LondonTimes

SHOWBREAD lose frontman

"We were in Miami Florida, facing the conclusion to a six-week tour with Pillar and Tyler Read when Ivory told me he was leaving. About an hour before we would go on that night, I was sitting in the van by myself, what I was doing I can't recall, and it all ended much like the way it began.
A little while after ivory told me he would be going, he explained that there have only been two other times when God had spoken to him so clearly. When he was younger, he told me, he had clearly heard Jesus tell him "Come and know me", and he did so obediently. As a junior in high school, he knew that Jesus was telling him "Go and serve me with Showbread." And he was obedient once again. And now, ten years later, the voice of his beloved God called to him again. This time the words were bittersweet as Jesus told him "Your work with Showbread is finished".
When we were in elementary school, ivory and I spent most of our time with our friend Paul Carrington, playing "American Gladiator" and laughing at farts. I remember vividly when he was sitting next to me in our ninth grade P.E. class asking me if he could be a part of Showbread. Then, all this time later, it was just he and I again when he told me his time was up.
We don't yet know the reason why God has called Ivory away from the band. He tells me that one morning during that tour he was up early, spending time with the God he has loved so much as to follow his voice, and to his dismay, that very voice called him to give up what is most dear to him.
When that tour started, I was reading a book by Andrew Murray called Absolute Surrender. One morning in North Carolina I led a bible study in which I asked my band mates if they were prepared to give up anything and everything for the God we serve. I asked myself if I would brave enough to give up what is most dear to me if God asked this of me, not knowing if I could.
Weeks later, God asked this very thing of Ivory.
With tears in his eyes he told me that he did not understand why his time was ending, but he had to follow where his good Sheppard led him, and my heart broke. I had always believed that in the end, I would take the final bow with Showbread with my brothers who were there when it all began.
So the seven of us sat in the van that night eventually, wondering what we would do and what our life as Showbread would be like without someone who had been so important to it since the very beginning. But more so, we were all inspired beyond words at Ivory's example of loving obedience to his God, whom he willingly follows away from the only life he has known for a decade.
And so, after every incarnation, lineup and change Showbread has ever known, every wonderful day and horrible trial, all the friends we've made and places we've been, every second of laughter and joy and every incredible aspect of this adventure we have made our lives, Ivory Mobley will perform for the last time with Showbread in May at this year's Cornerstone Florida. Though he moves on into the unfamiliar and terrifying territory known as "The Real World", he remains just as much a part of the heart and soul of Showbread as he did when it all began in 1997. And with pain and joy, we press on with a missing member, but with a fire in our hearts to serve our Jesus.
Tae, you are an inspiration to us and we love you with all our hearts.

Lily Tomlin and David Russell Blowup -Huckabees

Wow, yeah the movie is three years old now, but look at this behind the scenes video of Lilly Tomlin getting into a HUGE argument with the director David Russell. This guy loses it! Video Here.

Give Sanjaya the Boot!

Ok, I have to post about this. This Sanjaya kid is ABSOLUTE CRAP! How is he still on American Idol?! Check out "Starvation for Sanjaya". This girl claims she is on a hunger strike until Sanjaya gets kicked of Idol. Like it says on the myspace page, the kid seems like a super nice guy and all, but HE SUCKS and cannot sing much better than me.

Last night while he was singing, they kept moving the camera over to this girl. WOW. He's so bad, little girls cry.

HOSTEL 2 and CAPTIVITY Poster Bans

First we have the new, touched up and MPAA approved poster for HOSTEL 2. The original features a topless girl holding a severed head, obviously not approved.
Click here to see the un-edited HOSTEL 2 movie poster.--------------------------------------------------

Now we have the poster from the new movie, CAPTIVITY, starring Elisha Cuthbert?!
Apparently the original poster was too graphic and are being taken down. "In the wake of a public outcry against Los Angeles billboards and New York taxicab tops advertising the upcoming movie "Captivity" with images of the abduction, torture and death of a young woman, After Dark Films said it will take down the offending ads by 2 p.m. today."--"Lionsgate said Monday that it had no involvement with the ads, which were produced by Art Machine Digital, and that all the marketing for the movie had been handled solely by After Dark."--"Read more of the story at Hollywood Reporter.

Frank Miller's "300" Results and Disputes

Seen it yet? I still haven't! Waiting to get a free night to see it at an IMAX screen. Opening Weekend Results for 300:$70,885,301--Highest grossing film ever released in the month of March, and the third highest in the rated R category(behind Matrix Reloaded and The Passion of the Christ).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The battle of Thermopylae was real, but how real is 300? Ephraim Lytle, assistant professor of hellenistic history at the University of Toronto, has seen the movie and offers his view: And had Leonidas undergone the agoge, he would have come of age not by slaying a wolf, but by murdering unarmed helots in a rite known as the Crypteia."--

"300's Persians are ahistorical monsters and freaks. Xerxes is eight feet tall, clad chiefly in body piercings and garishly made up, but not disfigured. No need – it is strongly implied Xerxes is homosexual which, in the moral universe of 300, qualifies him for special freakhood. This is ironic given that pederasty was an obligatory part of a Spartan's education. This was a frequent target of Athenian comedy, wherein the verb "to Spartanize" meant "to bugger." In 300, Greek pederasty is, naturally, Athenian."--

"This moral universe would have appeared as bizarre to ancient Greeks as it does to modern historians. Most Greeks would have traded their homes in Athens for hovels in Sparta about as willingly as I would trade my apartment in Toronto for a condo in Pyongyang."-From Star.com

Indie on the Radio

Indie artists may have a better chance to be heard over the airwaves. REUTERS reports:Federal Communications Commission sources said Clear Channel Communications Inc., CBS Radio, Entercom Communications Corp. and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. have agreed to a consent decree that includes a $12.5 million payment to settle payola allegations raised by the agency.

The free airtime would be granted to companies not owned or controlled by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and EMI Group; do not have a market share larger than 5%; and are represented as independent through sales tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.
