Random Music News

Here are bits and pieces of things going on in the music world. "The dismantling of Tower Records may reflect present-day market conditions, but that doesn't make the passing of the archetypal music retailer any less depressing. Tower's debt to each of the Big Four is the subject of continued chatter, and the number that jumps out is the roughly $25 million owed WMG, which has a 15.8% total marketshare year-to-date, compared to the just-under $20 million owed Sony BMG (24.5%), the approximately $15 million owed UMG (31.3%) and the $6-7 million due EMI (9.1%). Warner watchers believe this disproportionate figure is another example of the lack of experienced leadership at the top of WMG's chain of command... A few weeks ago, UMG's Doug Morris singled out YouTube and MySpace as major copyright infringers that owe his company tens of millions of dollars."-TAXI ----

Whoa-where have I been? I had no idea that Current TV was co-founded by Al Gore!
Well anyway, they have aquired rights from EMI Records to use their bands' music on air.
"By using our programming to break out new and established artists from the EMI Music Publishing catalog, we want to further connect with our viewers by becoming a resource that introduces them to new music while also enjoying access to classics," says David Neuman, Current's president of programming."-Billboard---
