The CD is DEAD...
Alain Levy-CEO of EMI Music-told a group of people in London recently: "The CD as it is right now is dead," Levy said, adding that 60% of consumers put CDs into home computers in order to transfer material to digital music players.
EMI Music is part of EMI Group PLC (EMI.LN).
But there remains a place for physical media, Levy said.
"You're not going to offer your mother-in-law iTunes downloads for Christmas," he said. "But we have to be much more innovative in the way we sell physical content."
Record companies will need to make CDs more attractive to the consumer, he said.
"By the beginning of next year, none of our content will come without any additional material," Levy said.
CD sales accounted for more than 70% of total music sales in the first half of 2006, while digital music sales were around 11% of the total, according to music industry trade body the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
CD sales were worth $6.45 billion and digital sales $945 million, the IFPI said.
Levy said EMI is continuing to hold talks with Google Inc. (GOOG) on an advertising-revenue sharing partnership with the community video Web site YouTube, which the Internet search giant acquired in October for $1.6 billion in stock.
EMI's rivals, Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG), Sony BMG - a joint venture between Sony Corp. (SNE) and Bertelsmann AG - and Universal Media have all signed content deals with YouTube.
"The terms they were offering weren't acceptable," Levy said, adding that EMI continues to be concerned about copyright issues."-marketwatch

How is this even possible?
" The district attorney prosecuting three Duke lacrosse players accused of raping a woman at a team party said during a court hearing Friday that he still hasn't interviewed the accuser about the facts of the case.
"I've had conversations with (the accuser) about how she's doing. I've had conversations with (the accuser) about her seeing her kids," Mike Nifong said. "I haven't talked with her about the facts of that night. ... We're not at that stage yet." More story HERE.

15 yr old idiot burns flag...
They should send this stupid girl over to Iraq to fend for herself: "AP - A northeast Iowa teenager accused of burning an American flag is charged with second-degree arson and desecration of a flag under the state's flag desecration law.
Maryann Beck, 15, of Independence is accused of setting the flag on fire at the local VFW hall Tuesday night.
Police Chief Douglas Rasmussen says it was “a pure act of vandalism”. He says flag was on a flag pole outside the hall when it was set on fire.
Iowa law makes it illegal to publicly mutilate, deface, defile or defy the American flag.
Rasmussen says Beck was charged as a juvenile and she was turned over to her parents.
He declined to comment on a possible motive."

Israel and Germany Incident...
"JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel denied a German newspaper report on Wednesday that two of its air force planes had fired twice as they flew over a German navy ship patrolling the Lebanon coast as part of an international peacekeeper force.
Germany's Defense Ministry said an incident had occurred, without giving details.
The German daily Der Tagesspiegel quoted a German junior defense minister as telling a parliamentary committee two Israeli F-16 fighters had flown low over the ship, firing twice. "_Reuters--Read more of story HERE

More Borat....
HaHa...Now this is great!:"In case his movie doesn't succeed, Borat has already devised another money making scheme -- selling children to Madonna.
At Wednesday's London premiere of "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,' the bumbling journalist told reporters about his grand plan.
"I have come here with Bilak, my 11 year old son, his wife and their child, and we are hoping maybe to put some chocolate make-up on the child's face and sell him to Madonna. I am hoping that Madonna will be a very good father for it."-TMZ

Horror Flix....
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for $9.99. This movie needs no introduction and should be seen by all-not just horror fans.

DOG SOLDIERS for $9.99. Great werewolf movie directed by Neil Marshall. "Something evil lurks in the wilds of Scotland, and this unfortunate troop of soldiers are about to stumble upon it. A routine exercise takes an unexpected turn when the troop discovers a ravaged bunch of dead soldiers out in the woods. With dusk quickly turning to night, and an ominous full-moon lighting up the sky, the soldiers decide to hide-out in an abandoned farmhouse. With their supplies and morale both in short supply, the soldiers become trapped in the farmhouse by a pack of hungry werewolves who seem hellbent on enjoying the soldiers for dinner. Can anything stop them?

SUSPIRIA for $12.71. " Dario Argento's masterpiece of horror, with its assault of garish colors, booming soundtrack and horrifically dreamlike set pieces, is the cinematic equivalent of an exceptionally scary fun house. It tells the story of Susan (Harper) a young, impressionable American who travels abroad in order to study at a prestigious European ballet academy. From the first day, however, she begins to realize that frightening things are afoot at the hallowed institution. Enduring a rain of maggots, poisoned food and other unpleasant occurrences, she discovers that the school is a secret convening place for an ages-old witches' coven. Cut to various lengths due to violent content, the film's original full running time is 100 minutes. "

INFERNO for $9.99. " The tenants of a Manhattan apartment are terrorized by deadly spirits. Among other equally gruesome things, they are decapitated, clawed to death by cats, burned, and attacked by a knife-wielding killer. Another stylish horror opus from the incomparable Argento. INFERNO acts as a semi-sequel to his previous film SUSPIRIA (1977), involving the same witch-lore. This time around, there are a few very memorable set-pieces, most notably an eerie, breathtaking underwater scene. Stylish, violent, and classy all at the same time."--You cannot call yourself a "horror fan" without seeing these two

Some Country News for YA'LL...
First we have the not so good-but not the worst news: TMZ reports that Pretty Boy Keith Urban has entered rehab for alcoholism."According to a statement issued by Urban's publicist, the country singer checked himself in last night with Nicole Kidman, his wife of four months, by his side.
Urban says, "I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me." He adds, "One can never let one's guard down on recovery and I'm afraid that I have." Wish him the best.---------------------Now on to the absurd and sick news of the day. I did not learn of this until today! Why has this not been a HUGE issue in the news?!! On August 16th 2006 TMZ reported that:"Troy Lee Gentry, of the country singing duo Montgomery Gentry, has been accused of killing a tame black bear that federal officials say he tagged as killed in the wild.
Gentry, 39, of Franklin, Tenn., and Lee Marvin Greenly, 46, of Sandstone, appeared Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Raymond Erickson in connection with a sealed indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Minneapolis.
Authorities allege that Gentry purchased the bear from Greenly, a wildlife photographer and hunting guide, then killed it with a bow and arrow in an enclosed pen on Greenly's property in October 2004. The government alleges that Gentry and Greenly tagged the bear with a Minnesota hunting license and registered the animal with the state Department of Natural Resources as a wild kill.
Gentry allegedly paid about $4,650 for the bear, named Cubby. The bear's death was videotaped, and the tape later edited so Gentry appeared to shoot the animal in a "fair chase" hunting situation, the government alleges.
If convicted, both Gentry and Greenly face a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine. Gentry's manager, Johnny Dorris, said Wednesday that Gentry, an outdoorsman and hunter, expects to be exonerated." I hope this idiot goes to jail for the full Five Years and then gets eaten by a bear on his way home!

DR. WHO KEY TO TIME-Gift Set for $79.96. "Six feature length volumes comprise the entire search made by the spaceship Tardis for "The Key to Time." The fourth doctor (Tom Baker) is joined by Romana (Mary Tamm) in this search in which they encounter giant squid-like gods, space pirates, and bitter 32-year winters. Episodes included: "The Ribos Operation," "The Pirate Planet," "The Stones of Blood," "The Androids of Tara," "The Power of Kroll," and "The Armageddon Factor."
BLOW OUT for $12.71. "If you ever doubted John Travolta as an actor or Brian De Palma as a director, you have never seen "Blow Out". It is a masterpiece! A thriller with a terrific script, wonderful direction, and a story that will literally "Blow" you away! Don't miss this film!"
MEMENTO and FOLLOWING 2 Pack for $26.36. -Two of my favorite movies!- MEMENTO:"Based on a short story by the director's brother, Jonathan Nolan, Memento is an incredibly original film that is so wonderfully puzzling and eerily ambiguous that it will surely warrant repeated viewings."---FOLLOWING:"Christopher Nolan's fiendishly clever first film. Nolan was director, screenwriter, co-producer, director of photography, and co-editor, and only able to shoot on Saturdays--the filming took a year. Set in the grimy streets of London, the tightly wound thriller unfolds in a series of overlapping plots, each more intricate than the last, each pulling Bill deeper and deeper into ever worse trouble. Following may be short in length and cheaply made; it is also devastating."--Two more must sees!

Flix....
28 DAYS LATER for $12.71. "A gripping and suspenseful horror film with indie production values, shot on digital video, 28 DAYS LATER has a pleasing immediacy. Its actors are primarily young unknowns, its special effects consist of beautiful photography overlays and flashes of light with lots of shadow play, and its settings are rich and dramatic. The soundtrack is one of the film's truest strengths, with excellent music from Brian Eno, Blue States, Grandaddy, and Godspeed You Black Emperor guiding the action from the first minutes through to the last." Direction by Danny Boyle.
HIGH TENSION for $12.71. "French director Alexandre Aja (FURIA) hauls the slasher film back to its roots with his gore-addled romp HIGH TENSION. Aja prevents the film from lapsing into parody by packing a mind-bending twist into the plot. A valuable and fun addition to the canon of slasher films, HIGH TENSION shows there is still plenty of life left in the genre."
LOST IN TRANSLATION for $12.71. "With LOST IN TRANSLATION, Sofia Coppola cements her reputation as a thoughtful and inventive filmmaker. Every element of the movie is pitch-perfect, from the dreamy, atmospheric score to the expertly timed editing to the lingering shots of the characters and the city. Most importantly, Coppola's minimalist script allows Murray and Johansson to give astonishingly moving yet subtle performances as people who are lost in the limbo of a foreign country, but find each other for comfort and companionship. Both heartbreakingly sad and hilariously funny, Coppola's LOST IN TRANSLATION is that rare movie in which everything is in its right place."

Two GREAT movies.....
That NEED TO BE SEEN....Both came and went in the theaters, and were not really money makers. First is LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN: a gangster film written by Jason Smilovic, directed by Paul McGuigan and starring Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. The other movie is RUNNING SCARED:Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) is a low level mob flunkie who gets told to dispose of a gun used for killing some dirty cops. Yes from the first time I saw that surfer boy Walker was in this, I was turned off immediately and did not go see it in the theater. I was completely wrong and Paul actually does a good job of acting. Do yourself a favor and rent em now!

Todays Pic.....
-banksy UK-------"Infanticide was common in most well written ancient cultures, including those of ancient Greece, Rome, India, China, and Japan. The practice of infanticide has taken many forms. Child sacrifice to supernatural figures or forces, such as that allegedly practiced in ancient Carthage, is one form; however, many societies only practiced simple infanticide and regarded child sacrifice as morally repugnant. The practice has become less common in the western world, but continues today in areas of extremely high poverty and overpopulation, such as parts of China and India [1]. Female infants, then and now, are particularly vulnerable -- see female infanticide." -Wikipedia

One of the Best Music Videos Ever?
Watch the epic video for Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" HERE.----Im really liking this wikipedia site more and more everyday: "The KOC video was shot over five days: three days in Romania; one day in London; and one day in Red Rock, California; it was made available on July 11th, 2006. It was filmed and edited in the style of an old western film, complete with beginning and end credits. Despite the western setting, many references to 60s and 70s pop culture are present. Examples of these have temporarily removed, as the band is running a competition in which fans have to guess the 15 references. It was directed by Joseph Kahn, and stars British actor Russ Bain as the lead cowboy, Richard Brake as the antagonist, and Cassandra Bell as the love interest.
A very brief scene in which Bain has sex with his love interest was edited out of the video for presentation on television. The complete, uncensored version (which contains no frontal nudity) is available for viewing at the Director's website.
A deliberate mistake occurs on the main title card, which begins with "KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA (C) MCLMXXXI". These Roman numerals are improper, though might imply that the video was filmed in the years 2081 or 1881. However, at the end of the video, a title card reading "THE END (C) MCMLXXXI" indicates the year 1981. It is possible, however, that this was done intentionally."

Kasabian trying to stir things up a bit....
"Kasabian have slammed My Chemical Romance, labelling the band "clowns" who "don't have anything positive to say."
The Leicester five-piece criticised the Emo rockers as the band look set to go to the top of the charts with new single 'Welcome To The Black Parade', reports The Sun.
Singer Tom Meighan said: "It's like ventriloquists' music. It's weird and dark. They don't have anything positive to say. The only good news is that it won't last. These clowns won't be around for much longer.
"Their make-up will flake off and the scene will die out. And it can't happen soon enough."
Guitarist Serge Pizzorno added: "I just can't relate to it. We are about decadence, having a good time and getting off your head. We champion youthful rebellion.
"We're into peace and love, spreading harmony and having respect for people. But these people are the absolute opposite. It's sad.
"These emo kids should get out more and try and have a good time instead."

As previously reported, the Interscope set hits stores Nov. 21 and was produced by the band and Mike Sapone, who helmed Brand New's 2001 debut "Your Favorite Weapon" and 2003's "Deja Entendu."
As implied by its title, the album's inter- and intrapersonal conflicts play a significant role in the band's bang-and-whimper rock style, encompassed best by opener "Sowing Season (Yeah)." Starting out softly, vocalist Jesse Lacey reveals "She's losing all her friends/losing them to drinking and to drugs," looping the sentiment until the band roars into hardcore attack mode.
His electric voice gets an equally electric guitar backing on "Millstone," with big tom drum breaks and layered vocals on lines like "I used to know the name of every person I kissed."
"Jesus Christ" is one of the more pop/punk-oriented tracks, with featherweight vocal harmonies and a steady drum beat that eventually boils over into a frenzy. The pre-chorus of "Degausser" is augmented with what seems like a dozen voices, its instrument tracks heavily panned and giving the song a paranoid feel.
Misery and love meet on "Limousine," where the sweet plucks on an acoustic guitar are offset by the miasma of creepy sounds in the background. "I can dish it out/but I can't take it," Lacey admits, "I love you so much/but do me a favor, baby/don't reply." "You Won't Know" is driven largely by its bass line and the all-instrumental "Welcome to Bangkok" is a flurry of activity, the guitar lines distorted to the point of noise somewhere between shredding and screeching.
New wave and glam show their colors on "Not the Sun," halting abruptly for the scary and lonesome "Luca," a tale of sending one's lover to the bottom of the sea. One of the few songs that clocks in under four minutes, "Untitled" continues the creepy theme and gives way to the album's biggest song, "Archers." Packed with dirty bass lines on the verses and clean, tambourine-laden, 4/4 drumbeat choruses, the song offers an enormous crescendo and a breakdown of all the vocal tracks singing in a round.
The set concludes with "Handcuffs," a melancholy reflection on punishment and indifference, as Lacey sings, "It's hard to be the better man/when you're still lying/it's hard to be the better man/when you forget you're trying."
Brand New begins a fall tour with Dashboard Confessional Friday (Oct. 13) in Mesa, Ariz.

Bigger than Morrissey?!
"Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell believes his band are better than legendary rocker Morrissey, after the incredible response they received at this year's V Festival.
Both Razorlight and the former The Simths star headlined the two-day festival in August, but Borrell insists fans were more interested in his rock tunes than Morrissey's melancholic crooning.
He says, "I was amazed at V Festival when I was told there were 45,000 people watching us and 20,000 watching Morrissey.
"I was staggered. There was a chant of 'Who the f**k is Morrissey?', which for someone who grew up as a massive fan of The Smiths was interesting.
"You feel a bit sorry for someone who was your hero, but at the same time really pleased people are getting into your stuff."
Outspoken Borrell has previously declared his band better than Bob Dylan."

Tower Records Stores are no More....
"Tower Records, the music industry's most famous retail brand, will be liquidated beginning Oct. 7.
After a 30-hour auction, the process was won by the lead-bidder, Great American, who put together a consortium of other suitors who were bidding on different components of the retailer. The winning bid was $134.3 million.
“It's a sad day for the music business and I feel badly for all Tower employees," says Jim Urie, president of Universal Music Group Distribution. "Tower was probably the greatest brand that will ever exist in music retail.”
In court Michael Bloom, a partner with Philadelphia law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, the law firm that represents the secured trade creditors committee, questioned if the winning bid was the best one. Bloom pointed out that one of Trans World's partners, Hilco Merchant Resources, LLC., upped its bid by $500,000—after the auction closed—thus matching Great American's bid. Bloom claimed the Trans World bid was more beneficial for the 2700 Tower employees and all the trade creditors.
But U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Brendan L. Shannon ruled in favor of the Great American bid, noting it was important to vindicate the Chapter 11 auction process.
There is a chance the Tower Records brand could live on via Tower.com. Norton LLC, part of the Great American consortium, put up $3.8 million to acquire Tower.com and Pulse Magazine.
Out-of-business sales at Tower's stores will begin tomorrow.
