Mf Doom a no show?

Now, first of all, I love Daniel Dumile-aka Mf Doom and think he is crazy talented.
But this kind of bums me out. Why not just cancel the show?--
"The co-owner of San Francisco club the Independent got a call from underground rapper MF Doom's agent mid-afternoon on August 15, saying the masked MC was likely too sick to make his scheduled performance that evening. Later, though, the agent called back and reversed course: Doom was good to go. But when the rapper finally took the stage at 11:45 that night, many in the audience did a double take. That's Doom?"------

More Victory Records Tony Brummel Dirt

A LONG blog post has been going around the net since yesterday. The author(Ramsey Dean) is an ex employee of Victory Records.
It was first sent to Jason Tate and the gang over at AbsolutePunk.Net, but was taken down soon after it was put up. The boys at Decoymusic.com currently have it posted. A pretty interesting read for sure. The post can be read HERE, but I will also put some quotes up below:
"We’d all seen Brummel threaten people, both physically and, his favored form of communication, e-mail. In person he wasn’t intimidating. He didn’t appear to break 5’7” and I doubt he weighed in over 150 lbs. To compensate for this, he inked up with a bunch of tattoos including the cobweb on the elbow and “Victory” tattooed on his forearm and across his back as if it were a gang sign. Something by his own admission, he did within the course of a year when the hardcore bug hit him. To further project the image, he was a skinhead, which he shaved almost daily to obscure his receding hairline. The remnants of a chubby childhood still lurked in his face and his belly, leading me to believe his bullying attitude was programmed many years ago at the hands of a schoolyard oppressor."

Danny Boyle's SUNSHINE Advance Screening...

I was able to catch an early screening for "SUNSHINE" last night. This is the new film from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland. I'm a HUGE fan of "28 Days Later", which these two previously teamed up for as well. As I mentioned way back in January, I was eager to see how Boyle would do a sci fi movie. I will say that he did a pretty good job. Lots of great space visuals,sounds,good dialogue,and an almost perfect cast...I'll come back to this. When you first read the plot of this film, I think alot of us automatically thought about that movie Armageddon. Basically yes, for most of the movie, this could be considered a smarter "Armageddon","Deep Impact", or "The Core". While watching it though, you are of course reminded of "2001","Solaris",or even "Alien" at times. The special effects in this are top notch and really make you feel like you're right there in the ship or floating along side it. Now, as far as the cast goes, it was 99% complete for me. For some reason Chris Evans,who plays the character Mace here, and Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies, doesn't fit in the mix for me. I can't really pinpoint why, but he didn't seem natural for the part. As for the last part of the film, I knew there had to be some kind of plot twist coming up, but I wasn't really expecting the one that is thrown at us. I'll say that the writer Alex Garland is pretty much to blame for this. For me, it pretty much ruins the spectacular movie that it was in the beginning. I am not saying that it is not worth seeing at all. But I just wish that they would of come up with something a little more original and less Hollywood.

Frontiers Movie

I am really looking forward to this. Unfortunately I will have to wait quite a while to see if there will even be an english subtitled version available over here. The French-Swiss horror-thriller Frontier(s) will be theatrically released in France on January 9th of next year. "While an extreme right-wing candidate advances to the second ballot of the presidential election, a group of young armed robbers holes up in a backwoods inn. The inn is located in an old mining wasteland, and its managers are a particularly sordid lot [to wit, (neo-)Nazi cannibals]." Visit Gomorrahy for trailers and movie stills! Ok, so I, like millions of others, hate it when one of your favorite bands gets big and "everyone" knows about them. Fall Out Boy is a perfect example. When I picked up FOB's "Take This To Your Grave" a few years ago, I was hooked. Fantastic album. "From Under the Cork Tree" comes out. Again, great album. Few months go by and all of a sudden I hear FOB on the radio!??!!! It happens folks. Hate them all you want. Just don't go to their shows or support them in any way. Easy as that.--------- Of course I wasn't there, but more than likely this little punk deserved every bit of the beating he got:
"According to a Schuba's patron — who requested anonymity — in between songs during FOB's set, "a guy started calling Pete a sell-out, asking him 'Where's [girlfriend] Ashlee [Simpson]?' and making fun of his hoodie."
"Wentz apparently laughed the incident off — and even engaged in a little good-natured jawing with the heckler — but when FOB exited the club's tiny stage, things quickly sparked back up again."
""They did their last song, walked off the stage and headed toward a side door to go out onto the sidewalk. But that's when the scuffle happened," the concertgoer told MTV News. "The crowd surged back, then snapped forward. From my vantage point, I could see Fall Out Boy security was pounding on the guy. The guy was down on floor, shirt ripped, bleeding from ear and nose. Oldboy Cho Seung-Hui

Oh come on! I think they are really stretching here. Some are saying that a few of the pics that the idiot Cho Seung-Hui sent to NBC, look similar to the cover of Park Chan-Wook's bloody, revenge tale, "Oldboy". "The inspiration for perhaps the most inexplicable image in the set that Cho Seung-Hui mailed to NBC news on Monday may be a movie from South Korea that won the Gran Prix prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2004.
The poses in the two images are similar, and the plot of the movie, “Oldboy,” seems dark enough to merit at least some further study. Following is The Times’s plot summary:
'The film centers on a seemingly ordinary businessman, Dae-su (the terrific Choi Min-sik), who, after being mysteriously imprisoned, goes on an extensive, exhausting rampage, seeking answers and all manner of bloody revenge.'

I really recommend you checking out the Minnesota band-Tapes 'N Tapes-If you haven't done so already. You can sample a few songs over at their MYSPACE page. I recently was made aware that they are one of the bands on the new 2Ksports MLB 2K7 baseball game for Xbox 360.

RIAA hates NIN

Apparently I am behind on this story, but I thought this was pretty clever. Nine Inch Nails are doing the expected opposite and using the internet fully to promote their new album called "YEAR ZERO". NIN have been distributing tracks on USB flash drives at concerts. The first two were found in bathroom stalls and then another taped to the barricade at a show. They've all been 320 kbps MP3, DRM-free and widely distributed. The following is from BILLBOARD: "Neither Reznor, his management nor representatives at his Interscope label would speak to Billboard about the campaign, which has encompassed everything from cryptic phrases on T-shirts to Orwellian Web sites to MP3s found on USB drives in bathrooms at NIN concerts. But a source with knowledge of the project says Reznor may very well perceive it all not as a marketing campaign, but as "a new entertainment form."

Indeed, the source says the campaign forms the body of the "Year Zero" experience: "It is the CD booklet come to life. It precedes the concept album and the tour. And it will continue for the next 18 months, with peaks and valleys."

The source continues, "No one has assembled the full story yet. The new media is creating the story as it goes."

"Year Zero" came to life in early February when Web-savvy fans discovered that highlighted letters inside words on a NIN tour T-shirt spelled out "I am trying to believe." "We were in Miami Florida, facing the conclusion to a six-week tour with Pillar and Tyler Read when Ivory told me he was leaving. About an hour before we would go on that night, I was sitting in the van by myself, what I was doing I can't recall, and it all ended much like the way it began.
A little while after ivory told me he would be going, he explained that there have only been two other times when God had spoken to him so clearly. When he was younger, he told me, he had clearly heard Jesus tell him "Come and know me", and he did so obediently. As a junior in high school, he knew that Jesus was telling him "Go and serve me with Showbread." And he was obedient once again. And now, ten years later, the voice of his beloved God called to him again. This time the words were bittersweet as Jesus told him "Your work with Showbread is finished".
When we were in elementary school, ivory and I spent most of our time with our friend Paul Carrington, playing "American Gladiator" and laughing at farts. I remember vividly when he was sitting next to me in our ninth grade P.E. class asking me if he could be a part of Showbread. Then, all this time later, it was just he and I again when he told me his time was up.
We don't yet know the reason why God has called Ivory away from the band. He tells me that one morning during that tour he was up early, spending time with the God he has loved so much as to follow his voice, and to his dismay, that very voice called him to give up what is most dear to him.
When that tour started, I was reading a book by Andrew Murray called Absolute Surrender. One morning in North Carolina I led a bible study in which I asked my band mates if they were prepared to give up anything and everything for the God we serve. I asked myself if I would brave enough to give up what is most dear to me if God asked this of me, not knowing if I could.
Weeks later, God asked this very thing of Ivory.
With tears in his eyes he told me that he did not understand why his time was ending, but he had to follow where his good Sheppard led him, and my heart broke. I had always believed that in the end, I would take the final bow with Showbread with my brothers who were there when it all began.
So the seven of us sat in the van that night eventually, wondering what we would do and what our life as Showbread would be like without someone who had been so important to it since the very beginning. But more so, we were all inspired beyond words at Ivory's example of loving obedience to his God, whom he willingly follows away from the only life he has known for a decade.
And so, after every incarnation, lineup and change Showbread has ever known, every wonderful day and horrible trial, all the friends we've made and places we've been, every second of laughter and joy and every incredible aspect of this adventure we have made our lives, Ivory Mobley will perform for the last time with Showbread in May at this year's Cornerstone Florida. Though he moves on into the unfamiliar and terrifying territory known as "The Real World", he remains just as much a part of the heart and soul of Showbread as he did when it all began in 1997. And with pain and joy, we press on with a missing member, but with a fire in our hearts to serve our Jesus.
Tae, you are an inspiration to us and we love you with all our hearts.

REUTERS reports:Federal Communications Commission sources said Clear Channel Communications Inc., CBS Radio, Entercom Communications Corp. and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. have agreed to a consent decree that includes a $12.5 million payment to settle payola allegations raised by the agency.

The free airtime would be granted to companies not owned or controlled by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and EMI Group; do not have a market share larger than 5%; and are represented as independent through sales tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.

Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead today at around 3:45.

"WFOR-TV in Miami reports that Anna was found unresponsive in her hotel room. Local streets were closed off to rush Smith to the hospital, three miles away. Paramedics were seen pumping her chest as she was taken from the hotel."

Music industry sues Augusta man...

"Scott Hinds, 23, is a defendant in one of a number of lawsuits by Recording Industry of America affiliates seeking to halt illegal sharing of copyrighted songs -- a once-widespread practice some maintain was "fair use," encouraged by certain computer software.

As artists attempt to regain control of their music -- and reap profits from sales -- recording industry spokeswoman Amanda Hunter said 18,000 individuals have been sued in similar lawsuits since September 2003, but Hinds is one of only six defendants in Maine."---"The allegation is that Hinds used an "online media distribution system" to download tunes, then distributed the copyrighted material to others.

The lawsuit doesn't identify the download service Hinds allegedly used, nor does it identify individual users who allegedly obtained the copyrighted music from Hinds.

According to the association, "online investigators searched for copyrighted recordings made available by individuals on peer-to-peer networks."

They then filed a lawsuit against Internet service providers prompting them to identify individuals who allegedly shared music files.

Hinds faces a minimum civil penalty of $750 per song. There can be criminal penalties as well."-maintoday

Smokin' Aces...

Well back in November I had posted about this going to be a guy ritchie-esque gangster type movie. I was wrong-Kind of. I had been anticipating this to be balls to the wall-nonstop-action from beginning to end. It seemed to move really slow the first thirty minutes. By no means am I saying that this was a bad movie though. It's a definate top-notch crime-comedy mashup. Director Joe Carnahan borrows elements of Ritchie and Tarantino flicks, but does it well. A great quote I saw on it: "It's like True Romance crossed with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels remade with the artistic vision of Domino." The cast shines bright for sure. Jeremy Pivon's coked out character was excellent and Cameo's acting debut was superb. Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta give great performances playing their FBI agent characters. No surprise with Liotta, but I was wondering how Reynolds would be.
Even though we are only a month in-this will go into my Top Ten of the Year. Let's see if it can stay there another eleven months. I'll leave another quote I found on it: "Isn't this grown-up? In a word, no, and that's what's so much fun about it."

So this weekend I was able to catch two movies: The wild and weird "This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse" and the wonderful "Little Miss Sunshine". First we will start with TNIPYC. I caught this thanks to IFC's Grind House friday night flicks. This is the second installment of the "Coffin Joe" Series, the first being "AT MIDNIGHT I'LL TAKE YOUR SOUL". Director José Mojica Marins directs and stars in this 1966 grind house horror film. Shot entirely in B&W except for a pretty disturbing hell sequence: "Marin reportedly used electric shocks to make the writhing pain of the actors appear all the more real." If you're a fan of these types of grind house/campy horror films, then there is plenty to like here: women,snakes,spiders,demons,sadism,immorality,and twisted philosophy!

Now for something entirely different, we have "Little Miss Sunshine". This was a great movie with lots of laughs and heart. If watched just for the fact that Steve Carell is in the film, I don't think most will be that happy. He is hardly the star of the movie, but definately gives a good performance. The little actress Abigail Breslin, who made her first movie appearance in Signs,steals the show for sure. "What happens when you stuff a failed motivation speaker, his wife, the nation's number one Proust scholar, an elderly potty-mouthed heroin addict, a teen who’s mute by choice, and a bespectacled little pageant hopeful into a mini VW bus for a three day road trip? You get this hilarious but moving satire about a dysfunctional family obsessed with winning."

Ghost In The Shell Live Action...

According to Animenewsnetwork there is a live action version of the popular Ghost in the Shell anime in the works from Production I.G.
"Negotiations with American entertainment companies have not been a strong point for Japanese Anime and Film studios in the past. However, hopes are high that a project involving Ghost in the Shell would be more successful due to the significant number of people in the American film business who are fans of the series. The size of the North American fanbase for Ghost in the Shell is also a factor.

As the producers of the original Ghost in the Shell manga by Shirow Masamune, Kodansha still retains rights to the series. Production I.G. produced the feature length anime films Ghost in the Shell and Innocence: Ghost in the Shell, as well as the Stand Alone Complex TV Series. According to the new contract with Kodansha, Production I.G. will represent the creators of the original work and other involved parties in negotiations for distribution of the Live-Action Ghost in the Shell and all other activities involved with production of the film."

Wow,this isn't going to be pretty. I'm kind of confused on the part where this is supposed to be a "SECRET" attack? "ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons.

Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources.

The attack would be the first with nuclear weapons since 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Israeli weapons would each have a force equivalent to one-fifteenth of the Hiroshima bomb.

Under the plans, conventional laser-guided bombs would open “tunnels” into the targets. “Mini-nukes” would then immediately be fired into a plant at Natanz, exploding deep underground to reduce the risk of radioactive fallout." "Album sales dropped for a seventh consecutive year, but a dramatic increase in the sale of digital tracks helped keep the music industry afloat in 2006.

588.2 million album units sold last year, a 4.9% drop, while 581.9 million digital tracks were purchased by consumers -- a 65% increase from 2005's 352.7 million sold. Nielsen SoundScan, which released the figures Thursday, counts a block of 10 tracks sold as an album.

But the music industry continues to live with a double-edged sword. While hits were created -- Daniel Powter's "Bad Day," Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" -- no top-selling artists generated follow-ups that did significant business. Disney's "High School Musical" soundtrack was the year's top seller at 3.7 million units, but in the 15 years SoundScan has been keeping sales figures, it is the lowest total for the year's chart-topper. In recent days, the US military has begun to build up forces around the Gulf, in what is being seen as as a warning to Iran.
