Colonize other Planets?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"Humans must colonize other planets."
A recent quote from Stephen Hawking-a British cosmologist.

"Sooner or later disasters such as an asteroid collision or a nuclear war could wipe us all out," said Professor Hawking, who was crippled by a muscle disease at the age of 21 and who speaks through a computerized voice synthesizer.

"But once we spread out into space and establish independent colonies, our future should be safe," said Hawking, who was due to receive the world's oldest award for scientific achievement, the Copley medal, from Britain's Royal Society on Thursday."-Read more atReuters

Yakuza Papers

The IFC channel is going to be airing all five Yakuza Papers films through December. I'm excited about this because I have not gotten a chance to see any of these yet. Ifc quote: " This landmark 5-film crime epic is Japan's answer to "The Godfather". Directed by Kinji Fukasaku who also directed the splendid "Battle Royale". Head over to the link provided for more info.

"The posthumous reappraisal of Japan's most iconoclastic pulpster, Kinji Fukasaku, continues with this handsome packaging of what came to be known as the Battles Without Honor & Humanity series. A Quentin Tarantino favorite (the title song makes a memorable appearance in Kill Bill Vol. 1), the first Battles (1973) may be Fukasaku's emblematic filma convoluted, overpopulated diagram of escalating gang warfare in which fights seem to break out at two-minute intervals. (Deaths are annotated with a burst of text and accompanied by a dramatic trumpet flourish on the soundtrack.)"-Village Voice

IRAN gets ROCKETS from RUSSIA

Russia sells rockets to IRAN
RIDICULOUS! Breitbart reports: " Russia has begun deliveries of the Tor-M1 air defence rocket system to Iran, Russian news agencies quoted military industry sources as saying, in the latest sign of a Russian-US rift over Iran."---" The United States has pressed Russia to halt military sales to Iran, which Washington accuses of harbouring secret plans to build a nuclear weapon."---Read more at the link.

Radioactive Substance in Ex-Spy's Body *Update*

This is crazy, sounds like this is some story taken from a movie.Breitbart reports: " A former KGB agent turned Kremlin critic who blamed a "barbaric and ruthless" Russian President Vladimir Putin for his fatal poisoning had a toxic radioactive substance in his body, the British government said Friday.

In the statement dictated from his deathbed, Alexander Litvinenko accused the Russian leader of having "no respect for life, liberty or any civilized value." In his first public response to the allegations, Putin said he deplored the former spy's death but called the statement a political provocation." His deathbed statement was: "You may succeed in silencing me but that silence comes at a price. You have shown yourself to be as barbaric and ruthless as your most hostile critics have claimed," Litvinenko said in the statement read by his friend and spokesman Alex Goldfarb. The former spy said "the howl of protest from around the world will reverberate, Mr. Putin, in your ears for the rest of your life."

Takashi Miike to update DJANGO

Hmmm, I'm not sure what to think about this one. I'll definately check it out. Twitchfilm reports: "Clarification today that Takashi Miike's upcoming project 'Sukiyaki Western: Django' is a take on the Corbucci classic Spaghetti Western from 1966, 'Django'.

Seems as though, as could possibly be expected, it's probably going to have heavy Yakuza leanings as it's about warring gangs, but it looks as though this will be Miike's first English Language film, and fittingly for a nice bit of pulp cinema it features a small cameo by Quentin Tarantino, in a small role as 'Ringo'.

Shooting is currently underway, finishing during December."

KRAMER Puts Foot In Mouth

Kramer flings racial slurs
OUCH-Michael Richards-who played the character Kramer on Seinfeld is the next outed celebrity racist. Caught on tape at the LA comedy club Laugh Factory, Richards went off the deep end and flung racial slurs left and right. TMZ reports that Michael tried to apologize for his antics on the Letterman show(boosting ratings to beat Leno) Monday night. "In one of the most awkward moments in the history of late night television, a shamed Michael Richards appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to apologize for his racist, hate-fueled rant. It wasn't meant to be funny, but the audience laughed anyway."Hit the link for more.

TARANTINO and his Vega Brothers

Michael Madsen and Travolta
Moviehole reports- "The project, “The Vega Brothers”, has been on Tarantino’s to-do list for a while now.
Though he said recently that he didn’t think he would be doing it – if only because both Madsen and Jumbo Johnny have gotten a little too old to reprise their roles from the early 90s this, Madsen has an intriguing update – one that suggests it will still happen.

“Well, first he said he would do it, then he said he wasn’t going to do it. Then he called me and said, ‘You know, I’ve figured out a way to do it. It can’t be a prequel because you and John don’t look the same. It wouldn’t make sense as a sequel because you’re both dead.’” Madsen, in an interview for the 15th anniversary DVD of “Reservoir Dogs”, told the site. “And he gave me an idea that would be really outrageous – that John and I would be the twin brothers of Vic and Vincent. We come from Amsterdam to LA to avenge the deaths of our brothers. I think that’s pretty interesting. For me, I’d love to do it.”

Whatever the case, Madsen is said to be attached to play a role in Tarantino’s WWII pic “Inglorious Bastards”, so there is another theatrical release sometime in the future for him – how far in the future? Nobody really knows. Tarantino likes to take his time with these things."

Playstation 3 -UPDATE

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"Lines of anxious customers were growing at Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores across the country Wednesday as major retailers were getting confirmation of how many of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 consoles they would be getting for its Friday launch."
Sony Playstation 3
"Best Buy noted on the front page of its nationwide circular ads on Sunday that it would have a minimum of 20 60-gigabyte PS3 models and six 20-gigabyte models per store on Friday. How much each store would have in stock above that allotment was up for speculation."

Tgdaily reports "People are willing to go through hell to get the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3 console and there are already lines forming for November 17th launch. We went to the Best Buy store in Burbank where people started lining up on Monday November 6th, 11 days. Watch our video as one guy explains how he quit his job to stand in line, while another won't be buying his girlfriend an engagement ring anytime soon."

Thursday Nov 17th Update: PS3 Dangers! This is Nuts!
" HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting for the new PlayStation 3 game system to go on sale early Friday and shot one man who refused to give up his money, authorities said."

"ENGLEWOOD — Two armed men wearing black ski masks and sunglasses robbed the EB Games store at 7724 Hoke Road of five Sony PlayStation 3 video game systems about 9 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The suspects were described to police as 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing dark jackets and baseball caps."

"ORLANDO, Fla. -- A crowd of as many as 600 people who rushed the front doors of a Central Florida mall to get one of 16 available Playstation 3 game consoles became so unruly that the group who received the devices had to be escorted out of the area by officers, according to Local 6 News."

Hostel

Well, I consider myself a huge fan of the disturbing/horror/what the hell did i just watch -genre of movies. I was told by so many people that they didn't like the movie HOSTEL, so it took me a while to get around to seeing it. I can say now that I am really pleased with the movie over-all. I just wish that Eli Roth would of come up with more substance for the first 45 minutes of the film instead of it being a big skin flick. To be even more specific about this genre, I absolutely love the Revenge movies. Hostel ended up being just that and is leaps and bounds ahead of Eli's first movie CABIN FEVER.---->
Now don't get me wrong, Cabin Fever-which pays homage to EVIL DEAD-turned out to be an enjoyable one for me as well. Have some friends over, throw back a few High Lifes, and throw these two on. Here is a great review from someone on netflix:
" This is a horror movie that will scare many people from ever traveling to Europe - a lot like "Midnight Express" did in the late 70's. The director says he found a website that advertised itself as a "murder vacation," offering users the chance to torture and kill someone for the price of $10,000. This creates the premise for the movie. As Americans, we feel that everyone speaks English – even when overseas. This movie makes a great use of characters speaking “foreign” languages right in front of our main actors (9 languages are spoken in this film – with no subtitles). This helps allude to the fears of the unknown. And once the violence begins, if you have not witnessed a Takaski Miike film (who makes a cameo here), it might be overwhelming. This film will be remembered as one of the great American horror movies. It takes equal parts of modern J-Horror & Italian Giallo, and the “real life” gore of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Watchmen, More Borat, and Spiderman3

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Zach Snyder-director of the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead had this to say about his next undertaking "The Watchmen": "It's a labor of love, and I've wanted to try to get back to the source material as much as I could without it being, of course, a six-hour long movie. And I would say the fans are probably going, 'What do you mean? You say that like it's a bad thing!" --"I will tell you that the draft of the script is long. It's so long in fact that when we turned it in, we turned 'The Black Freighter' stuff in as a separate script so as not to scare them too much. We were like, 'Here's your script. Oh, here's your other script!' They were like, 'Oh, great!' _/film
Zach plans to begin on the Watchmen as soon as Frank Miller's epic 300 is complete.

Plutonium Found In Iran

Iran Goes Nuclear
Washington Post reports that plutonium and amounts of enriched uranium have been found in a nuclear waste facility there. "Both highly enriched uranium and plutonium can be used to make the fissile core of nuclear warheads, and Iran is under intense international pressure to freeze activities that can produce such substances." This comes at the same time as Iranian president Ahmadinejad prepares for the next Holocaust-although he does not admit to this. Head over to Haaretz.com to read more on this wackjob.

Random Music News

Here are bits and pieces of things going on in the music world. "The dismantling of Tower Records may reflect present-day market conditions, but that doesn't make the passing of the archetypal music retailer any less depressing. Tower's debt to each of the Big Four is the subject of continued chatter, and the number that jumps out is the roughly $25 million owed WMG, which has a 15.8% total marketshare year-to-date, compared to the just-under $20 million owed Sony BMG (24.5%), the approximately $15 million owed UMG (31.3%) and the $6-7 million due EMI (9.1%). Warner watchers believe this disproportionate figure is another example of the lack of experienced leadership at the top of WMG's chain of command... A few weeks ago, UMG's Doug Morris singled out YouTube and MySpace as major copyright infringers that owe his company tens of millions of dollars."-TAXI ----
